Enurensis (Bed Wetting) - Chinese Medicine explanation and treatment
After three years of age in children, enurensis (bed wetting) can be considered a problem. Most children have mastered day-time bladder control by that age and the majority of them will also be dry at night. However, there is no need to worry if a child is sometimes slower. Children develop at their own pace. Making a fuss could put a strain on the child and may create a problem where none exist. Psychological problems can often lie at the root of enurensis (bed-wetting) which suddenly happens in older children. Upsets in the home of worries at school may be responsible, if there is no urinary infection or bladder problem. If it persists, consult a doctor.

Chinese Medicine treatment will concentrate on the physical problems. One of the functions of kidney energy is to hold urine and if it is weak the child will not be able to control his or her bladder. Herbs to tone the kidneys and consolidate energy are walnut, chicken gizzard and black sesame seeds. These ingredients can be included in meals. Chicken gizzard, in dried form, can be bought at Chinese herb stores. In China, it is often sprinkled over the child's food.
