Genital Herpes - Chinese Medicine explanation and treatment

Genital Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex virus and is very similar to the one which causes cold sores. The sores can be visible on the genitals and buttocks, but can also be found inside the vagina and anus. Itchy and painful blisters appear and leave ulcers when they burst. Glands in the groin become swollen and tender and sufferers often feel feverish and generally unwell. Symptoms usually clear within two weeks, but attacks frequently recur as the virus can lie dormant in nerve cells at the base of the spine.

The condition is rare in China, but Chinese Medicine doctors treating it in Britain consider it to be a problem of damp heat in the gallbladder channel. A Chinese Medicine practitioner will prescribe Chinese gentian, rhubarb, water plantain seed and plantain leaf.
