Guillian Barre Syndrome - Chinese Medicine explanation and treatment

In Guillian Barre Syndrome the peripheral nerves, outside the brain and the spinal chord, become inflamed. Guillian Barre Syndrome starts as tingling, numbness and weakness or paralysis affecting the hands and feet before spreading to the rest of the body. It is thought to be an allergic reaction to a viral illness or a vaccination, and the onset is very rapid. If the paralysis affects the breathing, intensive care in hospital is necessary. In two-thirds of the cases, a complete recovery is made in the first year or so, particularly in younger people, but it can be permanent. Acupuncture treatment may prove effective.
