Immune System - Chinese Medicine explanation and treatment
Chinese Medicine practitioners use the term "defence system" which is very similar. They consider it to be part of the qi. One of the undoubted strengths of Chinese Medicine is its ability to influence the immune system and clinical trials are going on all over China and elsewhere in the world to further medical knowledge about this.

Infectious diseases and even epidemics have been controlled by acupuncture for centuries. Its use is much wider in China than here in the West. Research carried out at Beijing's Children's Hospital showed that acupuncture was very effective in treating childhood dysentery. Certain herbs have been identified as acting on the immune system both as a booster (astragalus, wolfberry, ginseng) of suppressor (thorowax root, black plum).
