Laryngitis - Chinese Medicine explanation and treatment

Acute laryngitis is the result of an infection and causes pain and discomfort in the throat. A second type of laryngitis is chronic, much longer-lasting and recurrent. It can be caused by emotional stress or by aggravating the vocal through singing of straining the voice, also by smoke, fumes or dust. A bacterial infection which would be treated with antibiotics in orthodox medicine, laryngitis is regarded as heat and poison in the lung by Chinese Medicine practitioners. In Chinse Medicine acute cases would be treated with honeysuckle flowers, peppermint, liquorice, mulberry leaf and blackberry lily.
