Leukaemia - Chinese Medicine explanation and treatment

Leukaemia is cancer of the blood cells. Many patients can now be cured. Major advances have been made in the treatment of the most common childhood leukaemia called acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. In adults, lymphoblastic and myeloid leukaemia can be either acute or chronic. Symptoms include fever, anaemia, headaches and excessive nose-bleeds, loss of energy and loss of appetite, weakness and weight loss. In women, leukaemai can result in extremely heavy blood loss at menstruation. Chemotherapy and other orthodox medicines are all regarded as helpful by Chinese Medicine practitioners, but there are also some herbs which are quite effective and are being researched in China. According to Chinese Medicine Wolfberry, ginseng, astragalus and Chinese yam appear to be able to increase normal red and white cell counts, and to suppress the cancer cells.
