Chinese Sage - Dan Shen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae)

[Source] Dan Shen - the root and rhizome of Saluia miltiorrhiza Bunge, family Labiatae.

[Function] Dan Shen promotes blood circulation to remove blood stasis, regulates menstruation to relieve pain. Dan Shen cools the blood to relieve carbuncles, and clears heat from the heart and tranquilizes the mind.

[Application] Dan Shen is indicated for irregular or no periods, abdominal pain after childbirth, abdominal masses and pain of limbs. If combined with herbs that clear heat and eliminates toxins it can treat carbuncles with swelling and pain. Dan Shen is also used for anxiety, palpitation and insomnia. It is can be prepared into tablet form or injected to treat angina in coronary heart disease.
