Milk Vetch - Huang Qi (Radix Astragali)

[Source] Huang Qi - the root of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge var. mongholicus (Bunge) Hsiao, and A. membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge, family Leguminosae.

[Function] Huang Qi is used to replenish qi to invigorate yang; benefit the lung to strengthen the body; promote urinaiton and relieve oedema; Huang Qi can also relieve skin infection and promote tissue regeneration.

[Application] Huang Qi is a very commonly used herb to invigorate qi. Huang Qi can treat fatigue and weakness due to prolonged illness. For deficiency of spleen-qi manifested as poor appetite, loose stool or diarrhoea, prolapse of uterus and/ or rectum due to chronic diarrhoea. Huang Qi is applied for cough due to lung deficiency and it can also treat profuse sweating or night sweating.
