Eight Principles
The Eight principles are the fundamental concepts of diagnosis in TCM. They are: external, internal, cold, heat, deficiency, excess, yin and yang. They are used when classifying disease syndromes ie deficiency syndrome. Among the eight principles, the external, excess and heat belong to yang ; the internal, deficiency and cold belong to yin. Therefore the yin and yang principles are regarded as the rulers of the eight principles.
